East Wymondham Green Infrastructure

Project details
Oxford Common is an area of natural countryside within the south and east Wymondham areas, an area of high growth. South Norfolk Council, working with the Lizard Charity, have established approximately 1800 metres of new permissive paths, resulting in a newly defined circular route. The project has also facilitated the potential for 9 hectares of grassland on the site to be restored to County Wildlife Site (CWS) standard.
Funding from the Greater Norwich Growth Board enabled the installation of appropriate infrastructure around the site (such as culverts, bridges, a boardwalk, fencing, gates and waymarking) to create an accessible area for local residents to visit for recreation purposes.
Previous evidence gathered for the project at The Lizard demonstrated that visitor numbers have been increasing at all natural recreation sites around the Wymondham area. The new paths will make green infrastructure accessible to the local, growing population, whilst alleviating some of the current pressures on existing sensitive areas of open space. It delivers on a key strategic priority of improving access to and connectivity between green spaces.
